Distance Training workout

Terry Pyle and I swam on the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins back in the 1970s, and she still trains for distance events.   Here's a workout idea she shared with me recently.  "Let's see: I'm pretty boring when it comes to work- outs, but I like the steadiness of this one.  This takes me one hour."

1,000 yards freestyle
250 yards back kick with fins
250 yards breastroke
1,000 yards freestyle
250 yards underwater w/fins (rest after each 25 yards)
4 x 100 IM's on 2:00 interval
100 yards EZ choice
3250 Total

  1. Nice tough workout. I like that it forces you to do a long set after a few short ones. I think this kinda simulates how your rhythm by any change in the ocean and you must concentrate to get back in a good steady rhythm. Just my take. I'll try this one soon.
